Some frequently asked questions relating to registered architects and architectural services.

Applying to register for the first time in SA?

Do you have an accredited qualification (Master of Architecture or similar)? Have you got the practical experience required? If so, you can complete your application online or you can complete the relevant application forms (Forms 01, 03 or 04) that can be downloaded here. If submitting the form manually, please attach the required documents and fees and lodge your application with the office.

Mutual Recognition

If you are registered elsewhere in Australia or New Zealand you can apply under Mutual Recognition (Form 02). You can complete your application online or you can complete the form that can be downloaded here. If submitting the form manually, please include the required documents with your application along with the fees and lodge your application to the office.

Automatic Mutual Recognition (AMR)

If you are an Architect that is registered in another state or territory of Australia (except for Queensland) and maintain your registration in your ‘home’ jurisdiction you can use Automatic Mutual Recognition to practice as an architect in South Australia. You can complete your application online or you can complete the Notification form (Form 2A) that can be downloaded here before commencing practice in South Australia. Fees do not apply under Automatic Mutual Recognition.

Have you been registered before in South Australia?

If you were registered in this state but have been off the Register for three or more years, you must complete a new Application Form (Form 01).

If you have been on the Register within the last 3 years, but are not now on the Register, you can apply to reinstate to the Register (see forms 14 or 14a).

Changes to registration details

You can make some changes to your particulars by logging in to your profile on our website. You must make changes to your contact details (employer; contact address; email; telephone) within 30 days of any change.

If your personal (i.e. change of name) or business (i.e. change of directors/partners) particulars change, please complete the appropriate Change of Registration Details form, attaching proof of the change and submit it to the Board (see forms 08, 09. 10). These forms can be downloaded here.

If you want to change your registration status from practising to non-practising (or vice versa) you must also contact the office.

Resignation

Should you no longer wish to be registered in South Australia please notify the Board by email requesting the removal of your name and details from the Register and return your Certificate of Registration. If you are unable to locate your Certificate of Registration, please complete the Statutory Declaration (Form 11) and provide it to the Board as soon as possible. This can be downloaded here.

Professional Indemnity Insurance

All architects practising in South Australia are required to hold current professional indemnity insurance. When applying to register online, you need to upload a copy of your Certificate of Currency for PI Insurance. If you are covered by your employer’s PI Insurance complete Form 12 and upload both the Form and your employer’s Certificate of Currency. Form 12 can be downloaded here.

If you are applying for non-practising registration, you can apply for an exemption from the requirement for professional indemnity insurance. You can complete your application online or you can complete Form 13 that can be downloaded here. If submitting the form manually, please include the required documents with your application along with the fees and lodge your application to the office. Architects who are non-practising must sign a declaration testifying to the fact that they are not practising as an architect in any way.
